The short answer
Relay.app was notable for clear multi-step automation and human-in-the-loop approvals. Its official site now says the service is shutting down on 15 August 2026 for free users and 14 September 2026 for paying customers. Charlie shares the belief that consequential work needs human control, but it is not currently a Relay workflow-import or drop-in migration product.
Side by side
Different products for different starting points.
This table distinguishes the live customer proposition from Charlie’s longer-term architecture. It does not count a planned connector as an available feature.
| Area | Relay.app | Charlie.ai |
|---|
| Current status | Free-user shutdown: 15 August 2026; paid-user shutdown: 14 September 2026. | Public application operating; connected operations remain early and release-gated. |
|---|
| Workflow model | User-built multi-step automations with human checkpoints. | Outcome-led business operations with bounded execution and exact approvals. |
|---|
| Migration | Exports workflows, prompts, run history and tables during wind-down. | No Relay importer or general migration service currently exists. |
|---|
| Best next step | Export existing data before the applicable account-deletion date. | Evaluate only against a specific Charlie-supported operational use case. |

Where Relay.app is strongest
Relay.app has a clear reason to exist.
- A strong human-in-the-loop workflow model with approvals, data requests and AI reviews.
- Multi-step workflows, shared connections and a broad trigger catalogue.
- Export support for workflows, sequences, MCP servers, prompts, run history and tables during the wind-down period.
Where Charlie is different
Charlie is building around the complete business outcome.
- Charlie’s goal is a customer-facing business operating system rather than a general no-code workflow canvas.
- Approvals live alongside the underlying objective, customer work, records and audit history.
- Charlie’s durable execution model is being developed behind its guided business interface, but it does not yet import Relay JSON or recreate arbitrary Relay workflows.
Current reality
No comparison is useful if it hides what is not ready.
As of 23 August 2026Existing Relay customers should export their data and choose a proven replacement based on the workflows they actually run. Charlie may become relevant for service-business customer operations, but we would not advise relying on it as a Relay migration target until the required connectors and workflow-import scope exist and have been tested.
See Charlie’s connector release stages Choose Relay.app when- Relay is no longer accepting new sign-ups, so this is now a migration decision rather than a new-product choice.
- Existing users should use Relay’s export tools before their applicable deletion date.
Consider Charlie when- Your future need matches Charlie’s service-business operations focus rather than arbitrary workflow recreation.
- You can start with Charlie’s current business tools while waiting for the exact required connectors to become public.
